Within the framework of The 2nd Shanghai Museum/Gallery Staff Biennale, I had the honour to participate in the group show, Conflicts Within and Without, at SNAP, Shanghai, China. The exhibition not only refers to global geopolitical conflicts and natural disasters, but also to the internal psychological and physical struggles of human beings. The exhibition runs until 12 August.
The 2nd Shanghai Museum/Gallery Staff Biennale aims to organise art industry workers across institutions, forming a new exhibition entity out of the forces and social relations that make up the torrent, and developing an alternative mechanism between contemporary art institutions and workers. The biennale will consist of a pool of artworks submitted by the artists, from which the curators will select pieces to form a proposal, and the artists, the exhibition proposers, the exhibition planning team, and the host organisation will consult with each other to decide on the implementation plan, and then plan the exhibition ‘from the bottom up’. During the period of the biennale, exhibitions are held one after another, and artists and curators move to several exhibitions at the same time. The biennale is intended to form a temporary or continuous community of the participants.
